Council launches CAP

Bass Coast Shire Council's online climate change community portal has launched, providing locally relevant climate change information to the community.

The Community Action Portal, known as The CAP, has been developed in response to an action identified in Council's Climate Change Action Plan 2020-2030.

Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan said the launch of The CAP was just another step forward in Council's commitment to raise awareness of climate change and its challenges.

"Relevant, trusted and locally specific climate related information is an important enabler of community action. We know our community wants to support local action in the climate change space," Cr Whelan said.

The CAP will provide information to support community action and will include local climate indicators as well as monitoring and evaluation to track the progress of the Climate Change Action Plan.

"The online portal will also allow the community to engage and interact with actions identified in the Plan," Cr Whelan said.

"It will also provide links to community groups and projects that support climate action, case studies and free external advice or resources."

Cr Whelan said The CAP is for everyone, from those who are interested in raising their awareness of climate change, to people who are already climate change champions.

"Make sure you 'follow' The CAP to keep informed with any updates or engagement on the page," Cr Whelan concluded.
