Council launches Christmas Giving Tree 1 December

Wingecarribee Shire

Wingecarribee Shire Council Administrator Viv May has today launched Council's annual Christmas Giving Tree Appeal.

"With the countdown to the festive season underway, we're asking residents to share in the spirit of Christmas and donate to the less fortunate," he said.

Speaking from the Civic Centre launch Mr May said non-perishable food items and gifts for children are the most sought-after items.

"For a lot of people Christmas can be an especially tough time," he said. "And this year has been particularly challenging for many Highland families as they continue to recover from natural disasters and Covid."

"Donating a gift is a simple way to help others and make a world of difference to a local family this Christmas."

Non-perishable food items and gifts for children up to 15 years of age are the most sought-after items.

All items donated will be passed on to the local branch of the Salvation Army where they will be sorted before being distributed in time for Christmas Day.

"The size and monetary worth of the gift isn't important," Mr May added. "As the old adage goes; it's the thought that counts."

"Our only request is that gifts are new and that they be left unwrapped under the tree."

The Christmas Giving Tree can be found in the foyer of Council's Civic Centre until Monday 19 December 2022.

The Civic Centre is located at 68 Elizabeth Street in Moss Vale.

Opening hours are 8.30 am to 4.30 pm weekdays.
