Council Offers Expanded Community Engagement

Community members will have even more opportunities to share their ideas, thoughts, and feedback this year, with an expanded pop-up program launched by Baw Baw Shire Council.

Covering events and markets from Hill End to Longwarry, community members from across the Shire will be able to engage with Council in their own backyards, as well as at some of Baw Baw's biggest community events, such as the Thorpdale Potato Festival and Farm World, both of which are set to attract thousands of attendees next month.

The Council Pop-Up program sees Councillors and Council staff from across the organisation hit the road to engage directly with communities to discuss their needs, provide updates on local projects and address any concerns that may be on the mind of residents.

Throughout the 2023-24 financial year, Council will be popping up at:

  • Thorpdale Potato Festival, 12 March 2023
  • Farm World, 24 – 26 March 2023
  • Drouin Craft and Produce Market, 15 April 2023
  • Rokeby Community Market, 13 May 2023
  • Hill End Market, 22 October 2023
  • Warragul Farmers Market, 18 November 2023
  • Longwarry Fire Brigade Market, 2 December 2023
  • Jindivick Country Market, 3 February 2024
  • Farm World – March 2024
  • Warragul Farmers Market, 20 April 2024
  • Rokeby Community Market, 18 May 2024

Since its implementation in 2019, the Council Pop-Up program has continued to grow and evolve and now incorporates more locations into its annually rotating schedule, which aims to remove the barrier of distance and improve the accessibility of Council to all residents.

In another first for the program, Council's pop-ups will also be going digital this year, with a number of Facebook Live events planned for the winter months. The Facebook events will provide community members with the opportunity to hear updates on key projects such as the Council's annual budget, advocacy updates and more from the comfort of their own homes.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Cr Annemarie McCabe

"We're excited to launch our Council Pop-Up program for 2023-24."

"With more opportunities than ever for residents to connect with us, we're looking forward to having more conversations and hearing the thoughts of residents right across the Shire. Myself and my fellow Councillors have found the Pop-Ups a great way to forge connections with our community members and we encourage everyone to stop in and have a chat with us while you're out and about."
