Council OKs $17M for Flood Recovery Works

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has been systematically working through its road network to assess flood damage following the state-declared disaster events.

TRC Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Carol Taylor said the first of 18 expected submissions had been given the green light by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, jointly funded by Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

"With the total recovery bill expected to be more than $100 million, this first approval of just over $17 million towards the Toowoomba Region flood recovery works is a welcome announcement," Cr Taylor said.

"The project is now switching from an assessment phase to a construction phase which will see the delivery of recovery works completed by both Council staff and external contractors.

"The process for securing suitable contractors is already underway.

"The community can expect to see a large amount of flood repairs completed over the next 18 months, and we ask for patience from road users as our staff and contractors take on this mammoth task."

In August last year, Council fast-tracked $6 million of priority flood reconstruction works, which has ensured a strong start to the flood recovery program, expected to be completed by mid-2024.
