At Tuesday night's Campaspe Shire Council meeting, Council accepted a recommendation to refer a community-requested footpath connection to a future Capital Works Program for consideration.

The meeting heard the outcome of an investigation into the request for a new footpath, which was undertaken in response to a ratepayer petition with 19 signatories tabled at the Council meeting held on 15 April 2025. The petition requested that Council construct approximately 75 metres of new footpath from Boothman Street to the Northern Highway, on the northern side of Rose Street, Echuca.

The requested footpath connection will be referred to a future Capital Works Program for consideration as part of the Missing Links Footpath Program.

Council also committed to advocate to the Department of Transport and Planning for the construction of a concrete hard stand at the bus stop on the north side of Rose Street, between Boothman Street and Northern Highway.

Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell said Council was happy to move forward with requests from the community where possible.

"Council's footpath replacement program is continually assessing the footpath network to determine the replacement program for the coming years.

"The requested new footpath will improve pedestrian access in the area, especially for elderly residents and those with prams or mobility aids," he said.

"Council will write to the lead petitioner thanking them for their submission and acknowledging that action is recommended to be taken in a future capital works program."

The requested works fit with the objectives of Council's Access and Inclusion Strategy, its Road Management Plan, and its Active Transport Strategy.
