Wingecarribee Shire Council has secured $155,000 in grant funding from the NSW State Government to improve two of the Shire's playgrounds.
The funds were secured via the latest round of the NSW Government's Everyone Can Play program and will be shared across Moss Vale's Church Road Oval ($74,000) playground and Mittagong's Cook Street Park ($81,000) playground.
Council's Acting General Manager Les McMahon welcomed the announcements.
"These funds will help Council upgrade two of our most in need playgrounds," he said.
"We're confident that on completion these upgraded playgrounds will bring a lot of joy to our youngest residents."
The announcement follows an additional $200,000 secured last year by Council for the refurbishment of Moss Vale's Seymour Park playground. The monies for this upgrade were also secured from a previous round of the program.
Since its inception in 2018 almost $15 million in funding has been allocated towards new or improved playspaces across NSW via the Everyone Can Play program.
All three playgrounds were identified for improvement as part of Council's Playspace Strategy. The strategy was adopted by Council in 2020 and provides a guide for Council on the future provision, development and maintenance of its public playgrounds.
Mr McMahon thanked the State Members for Goulburn and Wollondilly for assisting in securing the most recent grant funding.
"Both the State Members for Goulburn and Wollondilly, Wendy Tuckerman and Nathaniel Smith continue to be strong advocates for our Shire and we're grateful for their continued support," he said.
"I would also acknowledge the staff of Council who worked on getting these applications over the line."
Works on the refurbishments of the Church Road Oval and Cook Street Park playgrounds are scheduled to begin in the upcoming 2021/22 financial year. Weather permitting the Seymour Park improvements will be finished by 30 June 2021.
