- The University of Sheffield has been named 15th best university in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2027, out of 123 institutions
- The University has also been ranked among the UK's top 10 universities for 14 subject areas
- Sheffield is ranked first in the UK for journalism and second for a further five subject areas, including aerospace engineering, architecture and general engineering
The University of Sheffield has been ranked among the UK's top 15 universities by the Guardian University Guide 2027.
The annual league table - which ranks 123 institutions - also placed the University in the top 10 for 14 subject areas: journalism (1st), construction, surveying and planning (2nd), aerospace engineering (2nd), architecture (2nd), general engineering (2nd), mechanical engineering (2nd), civil engineering (5th), chemical engineering (5th), education (6th), dentistry (8th), geography (8th), zoology (8th), music (10th) and earth and marine sciences (10th).
The guide gives prospective students and their families information to help them make an informed choice about their higher education destination. It includes eight measures of performance covering every stage of the student life cycle, alongside rankings for 66 subjects. These measures span everything from satisfaction with teaching quality and class size to the percentage of graduates who secure graduate-level jobs or move into further study at professional or higher education level within 15 months of graduation.

The results build on a run of recognition for the University's leading teaching and learning, and its exceptional student experience. Earlier this year, Sheffield rose 10 places in the QS World University Rankings 2027 to be ranked 82nd in the world and 14th in the UK.
Sheffield has also been named among the world's top 50 most international universities for 2026 by Times Higher Education, and ranked 13th in the UK by the Complete University Guide 2027. The University was also ranked 13th in the UK and named the top university in northern England in the Daily Mail University Guide 2026.
