Griffith City Council is inviting residents to share their views on the future of water management, with the launch of a community survey to help inform Council's formal submission to the 2026 review of the Murray–Darling Basin Authority Basin Plan.
The Basin Plan, introduced in 2012, is currently undergoing its first comprehensive review under the Water Act 2007. The review will examine how the Plan is operating and guide future water management across the Basin.
Council is seeking community feedback to ensure its submission reflects local priorities, experiences and concerns. Take Council's survey up until Friday,10 April 2026 here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GCC-basin-plan-review
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said the review would have long-term implications for the region.
"Water management decisions made through this review will shape the future of our region, our industries and our community," Mayor Curran said.
"This survey gives residents the opportunity to ensure Griffith's voice is heard."
The survey seeks feedback on key issues raised in the review, lived socio economic impacts, community stability, climate resilience and views on future reform.
Community members can also learn more at the next Council Café on Wednesday 18 March 2026 at Griffith City Library. A representative from the Murray–Darling Basin Authority will be available to answer questions regarding submission, while the Mayor and General Manager will present an overview of what the Basin Plan means for Griffith in the library theatrette from 12pm. Hard copies of the survey will also be available on the day.
