Orange City Council is inviting residents to take part in a second survey about a possible new air service connecting Orange and Newcastle.
Earlier this year, Council asked the community for initial feedback on the idea of introducing flights between the two cities. That survey attracted around 700 responses and showed strong interest in the proposal.
Orange City Council's Airport Community Committee Chair, Cr Tammy Greehalgh, says the next step is to gather more detailed information.
"The first round of feedback confirmed that people are keen to see this service happen," Cr Greenhalgh said.
"Now we need more specific data to help us understand travel patterns, price points and demand. This will strengthen our case during discussions with airline carriers."
"The previous survey indicated people are already travelling between Orange and Newcastle for business, education, and leisure. A direct flight could make sense for both cities."
"Council, alongside the NSW and Federal governments, has invested significantly in Orange Airport over the past decade, making it one of the best regional airports in the state.
"We know there are economic similarities between Orange and Newcastle in education and industry, and similarities across sectors such as mining and winemaking and they could support air travel."
Council will use this additional feedback to inform conversations with regional airline carriers about the feasibility of adding this route.
Residents have one month to share their thoughts via an online survey, which closes Sunday 14 December 2025.
