Applications for Rockhampton Regional Council's 2026 Trainee Program are now open, with opportunities available across business administration, civil construction, horticulture and live production.

Chief Executive Officer Evan Pardon said Council's annual Trainee Program provides school leavers and job seekers the chance to join one of the region's largest employers and access opportunities for career growth.

"Our Traineeship Program allows participants to earn while they learn, gaining skills, knowledge, a nationally recognised qualification, and valuable experience in the workplace," Mr Pardon said.

"We know that for many young people, or those already in the workforce, their future career path isn't always clear or straightforward.

"This program helps open doors and set them on the right track.

"The foundation of our organisation is supported by hundreds of former trainees who have completed their traineeships and gone on to build successful careers across Council's diverse operations.

"Interested applicants are encouraged to attend the Information Session on 12 August for the 2026 intake, where they can learn more about the skills and certifications offered and the pathways available after completing the 12-month program."

The 2026 program includes nine Business Administration, four Civil Construction, four Horticulture and one Live Production traineeships, which will commence in early January.

Rebekah Collins was one of many trainees whose career was kickstarted by Council, undertaking a Business Administration Traineeship at Rockhampton Airport in 2013.

"Joining Council's Trainee Program was one of the best decisions I made to kickstart my career, as it opened the door to Local Government, helped me to develop a broad range of skills, and gave me valuable experience in the workforce," Ms Collins said.

"During my time at Council, I've had the opportunity to work across a variety of roles and departments, from business administration and airport compliance to strategic planning, marketing, and now in my role as a Senior Communications Officer.

"You don't need to have it all figured out, this program is a great place to start, whether you're leaving school or changing careers. I've seen many trainees go from uncertain to discovering exactly where they thrive.

"I've also built strong professional relationships, some of which have turned into genuine friendships.

"If you're leaving school or looking to change careers, this program is a great place to start."

Applications for the 2026 Traineeship Program opens today, Friday 1 August, and closes Monday 1 September.

Interested applicants are encouraged to attend the 2026 Trainee Program Information Session on Tuesday 12 August at City Hall, 232 Bolsover Street, Rockhampton.

The session will run from 3pm to 6pm, with attendees welcome to drop in at any time to speak with Council officers about the program and the range of traineeships available across different departments.
