Council Transfer Stations Update: Cash Payments Status

Cash payments will be accepted at all Council transfer stations from beginning of August, as well as all of Council's creative venues including the Cairns Performing Arts Centre and Tanks Arts Centre.

At the April Ordinary meeting, Council resolved that cash payments be reinstated at Portsmith and Smithfield transfer stations, with a voucher system to be introduced for Babinda and Gordonvale transfer stations.

The option to use cash at the Cairns Performing Arts Centre, the Tanks Arts Centre and the Buy Back Shop was also endorsed.

Cash payments have already been reinstated at the Portsmith and Smithfield transfer stations, as well as the Buy Back Shop.

Council had resolved to facilitate cash payments via the introduction of pre-paid vouchers and/or ticket system for the Gordonvale and Babinda waste transfer stations, and at the Cairns Performing Arts Centre and Tanks Arts Centre.

However, it has been determined that a pre-paid vouchers or ticketing systems would be difficult to implement, with the reintroduction of cash payments the best option.

Printing and photocopying services at the libraries will remain unchanged; self-service by prepaid card (paid by EFTPOS).

Cash payment options also to remain available at the Spence Street Customer Service Centre, Animal Management Facility, parking meters and stations, and participating Australia Post outlets.
