Get ready to untangle your fairy lights and unleash your festive creativity! Federation Council is thrilled to invite residents and businesses to illuminate our streets and dazzle the community in the annual 2025 Light Up Federation Christmas Lights Competition.
This magical event encourages everyone to spread holiday cheer by creating spectacular light displays. Not only will you bring joy to the entire community, but you could also win fantastic vouchers to spend at local businesses of your choice within the Federation Council area, making this Christmas extra special for our local traders too.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook, said the competition is a beloved tradition that captures the true spirit of the season.
"Christmas is a time to unwind, connect with loved ones, and celebrate the magic of the season," said Mayor Cook.
"Join us in decorating the region and bringing joy to so many faces by participating in this year's annual competition. Not only will you enjoy the satisfaction of seeing your amazing light display appreciated, but entrants to the competition will also have the chance to earn some well-deserved bragging rights! I can't wait to see the dazzling displays that light up our community and bring smiles to so many faces."
Key dates for your Festive Calendar:
- Entries Open: Friday, 31 October 2025, at 9am (Entry is FREE!)
- Entries Close: Friday, 5 December 2025, at 9am
- Lights On Period: Monday, 1 December 2025 - Thursday, 25 December 2025
- Judging Period: Monday, 8 December 2025 - Friday, 19 December 2025
- People's Choice Voting: Monday, 8 December 2025 - Thursday, 25 December 2025
Entrants can compete for wonderful prizes and festive fame in four categories:
1. Best Decorated Place (House or Business)
The most spectacular house or business display for 2025, as judged by Santa's elves.
Prize: $300 voucher to spend locally.
2. Budding Star Award
Celebrating the brightest new talent! This award is for the best new entrant or a past participant who has shown incredible festive spirit and created a standout display.
Prize: $300 voucher to spend locally.
3. Best Decorated Street
Encourage your neighbours to get involved! This award goes to the most festive street where two or more houses or businesses have entered.
Prize: The coveted 'Light Up Federation'; street sign will be proudly installed below the existing street name sign to recognise your collective success.
4. People's Choice Award
This is your chance to have your say! The community is invited to vote for their favourite display from all eligible entries.
Prize: $300 voucher to spend locally.
For those just outside the Federation Council boundary, you can still be part of the magic by submitting a 'listing only' entry to be included on the public viewing map.
