Council wants locals to help build better communities

Townsville residents are being urged to rate their neighbourhoods in Townsville City Council's Liveability Study.

Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said the final report will be an important document.

"We want to get a better understanding of what people value," Cr Doyle said.

"We want to know what everyone is thinking – we want to capture what people care about the most."

The survey period runs from today to 26 May.

Planning and Development Committee Chair Deputy Mayor Les Walker said it is an important time for Townsville.

"The survey will give us a score that will show us how people rate our community but more importantly we can break it down so we know what is and isn't working," Cr Walker said.

"It will tell us what people value and give us clear priorities moving forward."

Cr Doyle said Council wants to connect with all sections of the community.

"We're really keen to hear from people of all ages, we're planning the future and we're giving people a chance to make an impact in their area," Cr Doyle said.

"We want residents to rate their neighbourhoods and let us know what's important to them."

Cr Walker said it is a great opportunity for interest groups to step into the spotlight.

"If you're in a historical group, the arts and cultural community or any other group, now is the time to get your message heard," Cr Walker said.

"If you want more support or better access to community spaces this is your chance to push your case."

People who provide feedback go into the draw to win 1 of 5 $100 vouchers.

Residents can complete the survey at http://placescore.org/townsville or visit Council's website for a list of pop up stalls.
