Colac's Winifred Nance Kindergarten will receive upgrades to its playspace with the State Government announcing $300,000 toward a new playspace.

Western Victorian MP Gayle Tierney made the funding announcement during a visit to Colac today.

Mayor Kate Hanson thanked Ms Tierney for announcing the funding saying Council was excited to see the playspace redeveloped.

"Council, Barwon Child Youth and Family (BCYF), Winifred Nance Kindergarten teachers, parents and the kinder committee have worked together to develop a plan for the playspace at the kindergarten and we thank all people who were involved for their time and commitment to bring the project to fruition.

"The main focus of the playground design has been to enhance nature and open-ended play elements and cater for children of all abilities, ensuring everyone is able to play and learn, freely and confidently.

"The new space will also allow our educators to increase indoor-outdoor educational programs to enhance learning experiences for our children.

"Extensive redevelopment of the Winifred Nance Kindergarten building was recently undertaken, so to secure funding to modernise the playspace as well is a great outcome.

"The importance of early years services, and the provision of fit-for-purpose infrastructure to support those services, cannot be understated. We very much welcome this commitment from the State Government," Mayor Hanson said.

Funding for the project is through the Building Blocks Improvement grant program.
