Benalla Rural City Council has welcomed funding pledges from both the Victorian Labor Party and Victorian Coalition to redevelop the Benalla Indoor Recreation Centre (BIRC).

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes was in Benalla last Friday with Labor candidate for Euroa Angela Tough to announce $15 million in State funding to rebuild the centre.

Labor's announcement came shortly after Victorian Nationals Leader Peter Walsh visited Benalla with Nationals candidate Anabelle Cleeland and Liberal candidate Brad Hearn to pledge $10 million to redevelop the BIRC, if the coalition wins the upcoming state election.

Since adopting the Benalla Indoor Recreation Centre Master Plan in 2019, Benalla Rural City Council has continued to support the committee and volunteers to advocate for funding to redevelop this important community asset.

Council is currently in the process of appointing an architect to undertake detailed design work and prepare tender documentation. This is the first step in the long process of redeveloping the BIRC.

Securing funding for the works is an important step in seeing this redevelopment become a reality.
