Council welcomes largest graduate intake

This is the largest intake of graduates at Council and bolsters the organisation's goal to grow Townsville into the leading centre of education and training.

Council CEO Prins Ralston said he was proud to welcome the new starters to Council at a welcoming event on Monday.

"Council prides itself on growing Townsville's workforce through offering apprenticeships, traineeships and graduate positions to the next generation of the north's workforce," Dr Ralston said.

"As one of the city's largest employers it's essential for Council to encourage locals to start and maintain their careers in Townsville, whether they choose to stay at Council or branch out to work for local businesses following their training.

"These new workers will be learning from some of the city's most talented tradespeople and professionals.

"It has been a pleasure welcoming these new starters today and I'm looking forward to seeing them succeed in their careers."

Mayor Jenny Hill extended her best wishes to the apprentices, trainees and graduates.

"I'd like to offer my congratulations to these new Council employees as they head into a new chapter of their work lives," Cr Hill said.

"These new starters will have the opportunity to work in disciplines like engineering, environmental health, finance, analytics, business, IT, animal care, laboratory services, conservation and ecosystem management, parks and gardens, mechanics, and electrical work.

"This is an exciting time for each and every one of you - welcome to Council and good luck."
