Councillor Antoinette (Tony) Briffa has been recognised with an award celebrating her long-term service on Hobsons Bay City Council.

With over 10 years of service, Cr Briffa was recognised at the Municipal Association of Victoria's councillor service awards on 14 October 2022.

An engineer, Justice of the Peace and international human rights reformer, Cr Briffa is in her fourth term on Council, having first been elected in 2008. She served as deputy mayor in 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2017-18, and as mayor in 2011-12.

Cr Tony Briffa said serving her community had always been a great privilege.

"It's been an honour representing my local community on the council as a genuine independent councillor and as mayor," she said.

"I love working with residents, community groups, local businesses, other councillors and council staff, and am proud of what we've achieved over that time. I also acknowledge there is always more to do.

"I am a passionate advocate for our community, including people living with a disability, elderly residents, young people and LGBTIQ+ people, and it is such a pleasure to do what I can to help improve their lives. I am grateful to receive this recognition from the MAV."
