Councillor 'Listening Posts' across Bellarine

Community members in Barwon Heads, St Leonards and Leopold will have a chance to raise issues with their local councillors on Saturday 20 November as the second round of councillor 'Listening Post' sessions for 2021 continues.

Bellarine Ward councillors Stephanie Asher, Jim Mason and Trent Sullivan – representatives of Greater Geelong's Bellarine – will be available to chat informally about any topics of interest at the following locations:

  • 9.00am -10.30am at Corner of Hitchcock Avenue & Bridge Road, Barwon Heads;
  • 11.00am -12.00pm outside St Leonards IGA, St Leonards; and
  • 12.30pm - 2.00pm at Leopold Gateway Plaza, inside near Coles, Leopold.

The sessions are part of a commitment from all councillors to making themselves accessible to the community by visiting locations within their wards during the year.

All councillors participated in an initial round of Listening Posts in May, with follow-up dates for the Brownbill, and Kardinia wards to be announced soon.

Mayor Asher said she was looking forward to visiting Barwon Heads, St Leonards and Leopold, after previously holding Listening Posts in Ocean Grove, Portarlington and Drysdale.

It is terrific to be hosting sessions in Barwon Heads, St Leonards and Leopold, which will give residents an opportunity to raise any local matter.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to come along and speak with us about any council issue they want to raise.

Councillor Mason said it was important to gain an understanding of the distinct issues facing each town across the Bellarine.

By listening, Council is in a better position to develop its strategic planning and better represent the needs of the community.

It's also an opportunity for the community to find out about on council projects, decisions and activities.

Councillor Sullivan said he encourages residents to visit one of these sessions and discuss any issue.

I encourage the community to drop in as it is a great chance for us to meet local residents for an informal chat and find out what's happening in your local community.

Council wants to ensure we are providing the services and support the community needs.

All community members are welcome to attend the sessions and there is no requirement to pre-register.

Each session will be held in a COVID-safe manner in line with government directions.
