Councillor Sarah Ndiaye is the Deputy Mayor of the Byron Shire Council, a position she will hold until September 2022.
The election was held today (3 Feb) at Council's first meeting for 2022.
Councillor Ndiaye was the only nominee for the position and was elected unopposed.
"I congratulate Councillor Ndiaye who brings all of her recent experience and expertise to this role," Byron Shire Mayor, Michael Lyon said.
"I think it's important to have a returning Councillor in this key leadership position and I look forward to continuing our constructive partnership and achieving great outcomes for our community," the Mayor said.
New Deputy Mayor said she was honoured to be re-elected into the Deputy role, a role she also held during the last term of Council. This is her third time as Deputy Mayor.
"This council need to hit the ground running so I'm grateful for the opportunity to provide that continuity," she said.
"We laid the foundations for a lot of projects to meet our committees needs and expectations - especially in relation to housing, biodiversity and meeting our zero emissions targets.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve as Deputy Mayor and thank my fellow councillors for their support," she said.
