Noosa Council's signage laws look set to come under the microscope as part of a future councillor workshop.
Mayor Clare Stewart, who requested the workshop, said the current council was being judged on legacy signage laws it had not had input into.
"A workshop offers councillors the chance to examine the laws in detail and enable us to explore the finer details, understand the reasons behind the rules, have a say and perhaps begin a process to make amendments to the signage laws that we're being judged on but have had no opportunity to have input into," she said.
Cr Stewart said the recent outcry after a circus was ordered to remove inflatable clowns highlighted the need for Council to consider whether the laws met community expectations.
"That situation generated a huge amount of angst and concern in our community," Cr Stewart said.
"Many thought that this council had the ability to change a policy on the run. But that isn't the case. Amendments take time and there is a process to follow.
"It's a long process that involves significant community consultation."
The Mayor moved an amendment calling for the workshop during discussion about a planning application for signage.
"It's my hope that with this amendment we can at least gain a better understanding of the laws and the reasoning behind them," she said.
"It's important we create a platform for this council to have the opportunity to provide further strategic direction on policies and procedures, just as it is required to do under the Local Government Act."
Councillors are expected to ratify the decision at tonight's Ordinary Meeting.
