COVID-19 Restrictions Lifted - Greater Darwin & Alice Springs

Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet

COVID-19 restrictions in Greater Darwin and Alice Springs will be lifted from 1pm today.

Territorians have done a fantastic job in following the health directions and doing the right thing. Our lockdown has worked in trapping the virus and Territorians have helped to contain this outbreak within two weeks.

During this outbreak, we had about 1200 close contacts and 500 casual contacts. They were traced, contacted and quarantined and tested.

In a massive effort, our health teams processed more than 25,000 COVID-19 tests since 26 June 2021. To everyone who got tested – thank you. Getting tested is one of the best ways to keep our community safe.

Since lockdown ended, we have had more than 1.2 million people check-in at Territory venues – that's more than for the entire month of June. This has served as a vital tool for contact tracers during the lockdown.

Territorians are still required to check-in, in the event of any more outbreaks.

Since announcing last week that all venues are now required to have a check-in system, more than 1900 establishments have applied for their unique QR code through The Territory Check In app.

Getting the COVID-19 vaccine is one of the best things we can do to protect ourselves, our family and our community from COVID-19 and get life back to normal sooner. More than 106,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered in the NT with 18% of Territorians fully vaccinated compared to 9% nationally.

The risk of COVID-19 has not gone away and there's still work that we all need to do to keep us safe. Personal behaviour remains our best defence.
