Councillor Carol McGregor has decided to resign from Surf Coast Shire Council, following almost four years in the role.

The Winchelsea Ward councillor was first elected in 2015, and served as Deputy Mayor in 2016-17. Her resignation will take effect from Wednesday 12 June 2019.

"I am proud to have continually pushed the interests of hinterland residents, the rural environment and the agribusiness sector," Cr McGregor said.

"I will leave Council with memories of meeting many wonderful people – community members who tirelessly volunteer their time, dedicated staff who have been most helpful and supportive, and my fellow Councillors who, despite all we have been through, I still maintain the highest regard for."

Cr McGregor will focus on her career as a psychologist and furthering her leadership skills.

Mayor Rose Hodge thanked Cr McGregor for her service to the community.

"Thank you to Cr McGregor for her wonderful service. She has been an outstanding representative for the Winchelsea Ward. Cr McGregor has carried out the role with passion and has been a strong voice for the hinterland community."

Chief Executive Officer Keith Baillie said Council will liaise with the Victorian Electoral Commission regarding the process to fill the extraordinary vacancy.
