Creative Donation Aids Epworth Geelong Dementia Care

Epworth

Local volunteers have generously donated their time to hand knit dozens of 'twiddle cuffs' for patients with dementia at Epworth Geelong.

The knitted cuffs feature ribbons, pom poms, zips and beads to provide visual, tactile and sensory stimulation for patients living with dementia.

Epworth Geelong partnered with the Good Neighbourhood Project Crafty Friends Group to put the call out to keen knitters and sewers. This week, the group handed over an incredible donation of almost 50 twiddle cuffs to Epworth Geelong.

"For patients living with dementia, arriving in hospital can feel overwhelming. Twiddle cuffs bring comfort and a sense of calm, helping soothe anxiety and provide gentle stimulation during their stay," said Kylie Semple, Epworth Volunteer Services Manager.

"This beautiful handmade donation means so much to our patients and their families - the kindness of volunteers truly touches lives and brings warmth to our care."

Epworth Geelong is always looking for more twiddle cuffs. If you're a handy knitter and would like to get involved, visit our volunteer webpage.
