Cricket Victoria announces U17 Metro and Country squads for National Championships

Cricket Victoria has announced the Victoria Metro and Victoria Country squads selected to compete at the Cricket Australia Under-17 National Championships, to be held in Brisbane from 5-12 January 2026.

The Championships bring together the nation's most talented young cricketers, representing a key step along Cricket Australia's pathway to professional and national representation.

The Victoria Metro squad will be coached by Daniel Hutton and Shannon Young, both experienced Premier Cricket coaches. The Victoria Country squad will be led by Cricket Victoria Talent Development Specialist, Shane Koop, alongside former Australian player Julien Wiener and former Ryder Medallist James Miller, who will mentor the group.

Both squads feature some emerging talent that is already making their mark in Victorian Premier Cricket, highlighted by Jackson Martin (Essendon), who claimed his First XI five-wicket haul in Round 2 of the season.

Players from both squads will continue their preparation with their Premier Clubs and Victorian pathway coaches in the lead-up to the Championships in January. Cricket Victoria's Talent Development Manager, Tom Evans, said the Championships provide an invaluable opportunity for players to test themselves at a higher level.

"The Under-17 program is an important step for young players looking to progress through the Victorian pathway," Evans said.

"We're excited about the talent across both our Metro and Country programs. Many of these players are already contributing in Premier cricket, which speaks to their skill and potential."
