Critical incident investigation after police car rammed, officers injured in Lilyfield

A critical incident investigation has been launched after a police vehicle was rammed and two officers injured in Sydney’s inner west overnight, NSW Police say.

About 11.35pm (Saturday 15 December 2018), officers from Police Transport Command attempted to stop the driver of a white Ford Ranger in Lilyfield for the purposes of a random breath test.

When the 4WD failed to stop, it was followed to Canal Road where it stopped then reversed into the police vehicle injuring two officers (the driver and his front-seat passenger).

A third officer discharged his firearm towards the 4WD before it was driven from the scene along Lilyfield Road.

The 4WD was found abandoned a few minutes later after it crashed into a parked vehicle in Quirk Street, Rozelle. The driver has not been found.

The first officer has been treated for a head injury while the second officer has been treated for lacerations. They have both now been released from hospital.

A critical incident team will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.

No further details are available at this time; however, police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone who can assist police should contact Crime Stoppers.
