Critical injuries after Brunswick fire

Two women have been taken to hospital with critical injures following a house fire in Brunswick overnight.

Moreland Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the Laura Street fire which is believed to have started around 12.20am.

Emergency services attended the scene and found a 77-year-old man had been able to escape the home.

Two women, aged 74 and 45-years-old, had to be removed from the property by fire authorities.

The three occupants of the home were taken to hospital for treatment with the women believed to have suffered critical injuries.

At this stage the circumstances surrounding the fire remain unclear and the cause is yet to be determined.

A crime scene has been set up and it is expected detectives, fire investigators and an arson chemist will attend the scene today.
