CRTC Appoints Telecommunications Expert to Lead Competition

The Chairperson and CEO of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), Vicky Eatrides, is pleased to announce the appointment of Leila Wright to the position of Executive Director, Telecommunications.

Ms. Wright began her career practising competition law and commercial litigation at a national law firm in 2007. She joined the Competition Bureau in 2013, where she has held a number of increasingly senior executive roles. She is currently the Deputy Commissioner for Digital Enforcement and Intelligence, leading on data analytics, intelligence, and behavioural economics. Prior to taking on the Deputy Commissioner role, Ms. Wright was the Associate Deputy Commissioner for Policy, Planning and Advocacy, where she led major initiatives aimed at promoting competition, including in the telecommunications industry. She directed a comprehensive study of Canada's broadband industry and led the Competition Bureau's participation in a number of CRTC proceedings.

Ms. Wright holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto and degrees in Political Studies and Life Sciences from Queen's University.
