Major road rehabilitation works at the southern end of Docker Street have been completed, in preparation for an expected increase in traffic when the Edmondson Street Bridge is closed for the Inland Rail project.
Wagga Wagga City Council contractors wrapped up the works this week on a stretch of Bourke and Docker streets, between Athol and Edward streets, along with a portion of Dwyer Street.
The package of essential civil works, which commenced on Monday 20 October 2025, included new kerb and guttering, deep lift asphalt and line marking.
Council's Director Infrastructure Services Henry Pavitt acknowledges there were some major disruptions to traffic during the project.
"We want to thank all the residents and motorists, as well as the businesses and health services for their support, patience and understanding as we carried out this important work," Mr Pavitt said.
"We know it caused some inconvenience and delays, but it was important to improve this key thoroughfare for north and south bound traffic before the closure of the Edmondson Street Bridge by Inland Rail.
"We are confident the road will deliver a smoother ride for all road users and that it now has the capacity to safely carry the increased traffic load which is expected during the closure."

The Edmondson Street Bridge upgrade is being managed and delivered by both Inland Rail and its delivery contractor Martinus.
The trial closure of the bridge starts on the evening of Saturday 22 November.
Motorists are reminded there will be restrictions on turning into or out of the residential streets along Bourke Street, between Coleman and Urana streets.
It is also expected the intersections of Docker Street and Sturt Highway (Edward Street) and Tarcutta Street/ Lake Albert Road and Sturt Highway (Edward Street) will be impacted by the bridge closure.
"Along with Inland Rail and the contractors, Martinus, we are encouraging road users to start planning ahead and preparing for longer journeys, particularly during peak traffic hours in the morning and afternoon," Mr Pavitt said.
"Seek alternate routes where possible and please be patient and drive to the conditions."
The community is advised Council will also be carrying out a series of civil works across the city and its suburbs over coming months.
One of the key works is the next phase of the Pine Gully Road upgrade, with construction of a roundabout and intersection treatment works at Cootamundra Boulevard and Avocet Drive expected to start in January 2026.
Other works include the rehabilitation of Lake Albert Road between Eastlake Drive and Brunskill Road, the Fitzhardinge and Morgan streets intersection, and the eastern end of Kyeamba Avenue.
Council continues to talk with residents, schools and businesses who will be impacted by these works.
