With more Aussies hitting the road to explore their own backyard rather than heading overseas, caravanning is cruising ahead as a favourite holiday pick, recent research shows.
The Caravan Industry Association of Australia's 2025 Consumer Sentiment Report has revealed the sector's resilience, with a remarkable 88% of respondents planning to caravan or camp in the next year.
The report also found that Aussies are embracing the value of caravan and camping holidays, with 77% saying they offer better value than other types of holidays, 76% rating them as great value for money, and 50% believing domestic travel delivers better value than heading overseas.
Crusader Caravans Founder and CEO Serge Valentino said travellers are increasingly turning to caravan and camping getaways for their unbeatable value, combining affordability with the freedom to explore at their own pace.
"We're seeing a clear shift towards people wanting to buy vans for shorter, more frequent trips rather than long holidays. With the recent release of our new MY25 models, we're seeing a surge in demand that's reminiscent of the unprecedented levels experienced during the COVID pandemic," Serge said.
"Caravanning lends itself beautifully to the impromptu nature of short stays. There's no accommodation or flight bookings needed, you just hitch up your caravan and go, allowing you to travel off-season and stay as far or as close to home as you wish. Had a busy week? Just pack up and go. No plans? Take a drive and see where the road leads. That's the beauty of caravanning.
"Buying a caravan is a significant investment, and we understand that customers want a product that delivers long-term value and reliability. Crusader prides itself on offering caravans that are highly durable, combining top-quality materials, thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship," Serge added.
"Australians are certainly feeling the pinch as economic pressures intensify, and cost-of-living challenges affect holidays. Yet the travel sector remains resilient, with many determined to prioritise time off which is reflected in the rise of shorter trips — by shortening getaways, people can travel more frequently.
Recent data from the Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) highlights how rising living costs are reshaping Australians' travel plans:
- 58% of Australians say that the cost of living has affected their decision to travel
- of those who said their decision to travel has been impacted by cost-of-living pressures, 38% said opting for shorter holidays than originally planned
- 31% say they will holiday in Australia rather than overseas.
"Our caravans are also designed with high-quality insulation to keep you cosy in winter and cool in summer, so you can enjoy true comfort no matter the season. We know the weather doesn't always play along—but that's the beauty of travelling with a Crusader.
"We're also proud to mention that our caravans are built with EcoLite full composite panels—making them typically lighter and stronger than traditional builds. This innovative construction is what sets us apart and gives our customers confidence. With a Crusader, they're not just purchasing a caravan—they're investing in years of unforgettable adventures, and the comfort to enjoy every moment, come rain or shine."
