CSR Gyprock Yarraville refuse fair pay increase for workers, forcing strike until fair deal is achieved

CFMEU VIC/TAS

Just weeks from Christmas, CSR Gyprock in Yarraville has forced workers into an ugly and costly pay dispute. Workers are asking for a modest pay increase to keep up with the cost of living in Melbourne.

CSR's response has been disgraceful, with management refusing to pay workers who are taking action against the company's abysmal offer of a 2.5% pay increase, leaving workers wondering how they will support their families.

Employees have been on the picket line since last Friday with management also threatening to cancel workers' approved leave over Christmas, forcing them to work over the holidays, taking away their well earnt time with family.

CSR recorded a 30% increase in profits in the last half year ending 30 September 2021, resulting in $86.6 million lining the pockets of CSR's wealthy shareholders and executives. CSR boss Julie Coats has received over $1 million in bonuses alone.

Workers are just asking for a fair wage increase so they can support their families and keep up with the cost of living in Melbourne. A fundraising page has been set up where every dollar raised will pay for basic expenses of striking workers until they secure a fair deal:
