Cube Wodonga powers up

Energy savings at The Cube Wodonga are through the roof since the installation of a further 182 solar panels and an additional LED lighting upgrade earlier this year.

The new 75kW solar power system complements a 20kW system installed in June 2016 that comprises 84 solar panels, boosting the system to 95kW.

While the upgrades cost the council $177,510, the accumulated cost savings over two financial years are already $118, 886.

The savings could power the council's entertainment precinct for a further two financial years.

What does this mean?

Wodonga Council has turned one of its facilities with high-energy needs into a more energy-efficient building.

The Team Leader for The Cube Wodonga, Rebecca Bennell, said the biggest impact had been the reduced cost to the council and the community.

"We have also seen the increased capabilities of some of our new fixtures, allowing up to provide better lighting options whilst reducing our energy usage," she said.

Visitors to The Cube can see the day-to-day energy consumption, the performance of the solar panels and more on a television screen to the right of the box office.

The council will continue to convert existing lighting to LED technology over time and as the budget allows.
