Cyclone Fina Update: Community Facilities Update

Darwin City Council
  • City of Darwin continues to assess the damage of assets across the municipality.

  • The Council provides an update on what facilities will reopen tomorrow, Tuesday 25 November. Full details below.

City of Darwin has made significant progress in assessing the damage to City of Darwin assets sustained from Tropical Cyclone Fina.

Several additional Council facilities have been cleared to reopen tomorrow, while others will remain closed until further safety assessments and cleanup are completed.

While Shoal Bay Waste Management Facility is open for commercial waste only and is not open to the public, residents can take their green waste to a free, alternative emergency waste management site at Hidden Valley. City of Darwin is working to reopen this to the public as soon as possible.

Other facilities that are open include the Civic Centre, Libraries, Carparks, the Pound and Parap Pool.

Lord Mayor Peter Styles says it has been a tough few days for the community and he wanted to acknowledge the resilience Territorians continue to show.

"Council is working together with emergency services, utility providers and the Northern Territory Government to assess and clear the widespread debris and damage across the municipality," he said.

"Multiple teams have been throughout the City since Sunday morning, clearing the thousands of fallen trees across our 475km of roads, and restoring access to driveways and other essential services."

"It'll be a busy week, so we ask for the community's patience, and we'll continue to provide updates as they become available," he added.
