Police have arrested two waterlogged thieves in a farm dam this morning after they dumped a stolen car in Macedon.
The pair first came to police attention in Cumberland Road Pascoe Vale when detectives noticed the man and woman in what appeared to be a brand-new black Triton utility about 12.50am.
A check of the NSW registration plates indicated they were stolen.
Officers on the ground attempted to intercept the Ute before it sped off driving in an erratic manner.
The vehicle was followed with assistance of the Airwing through Broadmeadows, the Calder Freeway, into Sunbury and then Macedon.
Broadmeadows van members were able to successfully stop stick the vehicle in Black Forest Road where it came to rest a short time later.
Police swooped on the area with uniform members, Airwing and Dog Squad closing in on the pair after they ran from the dumped Ute into scrubland.
PD Ted along with his handler led officers to a farm dam where the cold, wet and shivering pair were found half submerged trying to get away.
They were coaxed from the water and arrested without incident.
The 25-year-old woman and 34-year-old man, both of no fixed address, are currently assisting police with their enquiries.
It is expected the pair will be interviewed in relation to theft of motor car and dangerous driving while being pursued by police.
Detectives believe the Triton was stolen from an Echuca car yard last week.
The man was also wanted on warrants in relation to a number of matters including dangerous driving while being pursued by police and aggravated burglary.
