City of Darwin is calling on residents to help shape the future of their city by providing feedback on the draft Place and Liveability Plan 2050 - a bold, community-led vision to enhance what it means to live, work and thrive in Darwin over the next 25 years.
The draft plan sets out a long-term roadmap to make Darwin a more liveable, inclusive, sustainable and resilient city, with a strong sense of place that reflects local identity and values. At its core, the plan is about creating better every day experiences for people - safer streets, cooler and greener spaces, more vibrant neighbourhoods, and stronger community connections.
To support this vision, the Place and Liveability Plan 2050 is accompanied by an innovative, interactive Liveability Platform - a digital tool co-designed with the community. The platform allows residents to share their favourite places, view liveability features and data across neighbourhoods, track progress against key goals and suggest place-based improvements. It's a practical, transparent and ongoing way for the community to stay involved and shape the city's future.
Community feedback is now open, and residents are encouraged to explore both the draft Plan and the Liveability Platform and share their views from today until Friday 25 July 2025.
Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis said the draft Plan captures the aspirations of the people of Darwin and presents a shared vision for the kind of city residents want to live in.
"Last year we asked the people of Darwin what they love about their city, what challenges they face in their neighbourhoods and what they want to see in the future," Mr Vatskalis said.
"The response was clear: people want a safer, greener, more connected Darwin - a city where local culture is celebrated, community life thrives and quality of life is front and centre. That's what this draft Place and Liveability Plan 2050 is all about."

Building on an already strong foundation of City of Darwin initiatives that prioritise sustainability, creativity, innovation and wellbeing, the draft Place and Liveability Plan 2050 outlines key principles to guide future planning and investment decisions, ensuring Darwin evolves as a city that is not only economically strong, but socially connected and environmentally future-fit.
The key liveability principles that the community said were important to them included:

- Physical connectivity
- Safety and security
- Arts and culture
