Darwin Seeks Members for Sister City Advisory Board

Darwin City Council

City of Darwin is seeking Expressions of Interest from community members to join the Sister City Advisory Committee for the 2026-2028 term.

The Committee is advisory in nature and plays a key role in strengthening relationships between City of Darwin and its international Sister Cities, supporting Council's international relations program and contributing to cultural, community and economic development outcomes for the city.

City of Darwin currently maintains seven Sister City relationships, including Ambon and Denpasar (Indonesia), Anchorage (USA), Dili (Timor Leste), Haikou (China), Kalymnos (Greece) and Milikapiti (Tiwi Islands, NT).

Lord Mayor Peter Styles said the Committee plays an important role in building global connections that benefit the Darwin community.

"Darwin's Sister City relationships create opportunities for cultural exchange, education, tourism and economic development, while strengthening our connections with communities across the region and around the world," Mr Styles said.

"We are looking for community members who can bring experience, ideas and connections to provide recommendations to Council to strengthen these relationships and support the next stage of our international engagement.

The incoming Committee will work closely with City of Darwin to develop the 2026-2028 Sister City Action Plan, helping guide future international collaboration and engagement.

City of Darwin's international relations program supports a creative, connected and inclusive city by attracting visitors and new residents, while also creating pathways to international markets, students and tourism that contribute to Darwin's economic prosperity.

In May 2025, City of Darwin's Sister City network was showcased through the Darwin Fusion event, which attracted more than 2,000 attendees from Australia and overseas.

Applicants should ideally have skills and expertise that support the objectives of the Sister City Program, including experience in local industry, knowledge of international business opportunities, or experience in education, cultural exchange or economic development.

The Committee has 10 community members appointed for two-year terms.

Expressions of Interest can be submitted via the online form at: darwin.nt.gov.au/sister-city-committee

Applications open on Wednesday 1 July and close on Monday 20 July 2026.
