Tourism NT to host G'day Australia 2026 in Darwin
Tourism NT has won the bid to host G'day Australia 2026, Tourism Australia's biennial trade event for international front line travel agents. More than 600 delegates including 300 agents will visit the Northern Territory next year in what will be the largest tourism trade event ever held in the NT.
The huge tourism industry event to be held in Darwin in October 2026 is part of Tourism NT's new strategy to increase international visitation during off peak periods and further promotes the NT as a must-visit destination.
The event will provide a welcome boost for Territory tourism and hospitality operators and is expected to inject more than $3 million in on-ground spend during Darwin's shoulder season.
The 300 qualified Aussie Specialist agents are from more than 17 markets including US, UK, China, Malaysia and India. The travel agents will meet with Australian tourism providers face-to-face and take part in familiarisation visits in the NT to experience Australia's world class tourism offerings.
Agents who take part in G'day Australia already specialise in selling Australian holidays, however many have never visited Darwin or the NT before. Agents will leave with knowledge and experiences they can then go on to sell to holidaymakers.
Tourism NT CEO Suzana Bishop said it was exciting to see Darwin host this prestigious event with the 300 international travel agents getting to see and experience some of our best kept secrets.
"G'day Australia will further highlight the Northern Territory as a must-visit destination, with agents to experience the best of the NT. While the Northern Territory is renowned for its stunning waterfalls, national parks and rich Aboriginal cultural experiences, it offers so much more. As a vibrant melting pot, the NT features a flourishing food scene, exciting events calendar and the best dark sky tourism offerings in the country.
"The event is an opportunity to market the Territory to international visitors through agents who will have experienced the uniqueness of the NT themselves. They will no doubt come away surprised and delighted."
Tourism NT Acting Chief Marketing Officer Monika Tonkin said G'day Australia is an opportunity to leverage the work Tourism NT already does in promoting the Territory to international audiences.
"We already work closely with travel trade in international markets to educate and incentivise them to sell the NT to visitors. This event will further build on those connections and inspire the international travel industry to make sure the NT is on every international visitor's Australia itinerary."
G'day Australia 2026 will be delivered by Tourism Australia in partnership with Tourism NT.
