Dashboard data shows little change as another year of failure passes

Tasmanian Labor

Recently released health and housing dashboard data shows that despite a lot of talk, the Liberal Government has made very little progress this year.

Shadow Health Minister Anita Dow said while some areas showed slight improvement, the dashboards still provided grim reading.

"Yesterday's health dashboard data shows that the government continues to let Tasmanians down when it comes to accessing essential health services," Ms Dow said

"There are still 10,247 Tasmanians waiting for elective surgery, the number of people on the outpatient list has risen to 57,538 and the oral health waitlist continues to blow out, now at 18,310.

"Despite some positive improvements this data shows the government hasn't done enough, and it definitely deserves another F for its efforts this year.

"This data does little to instil confidence in the government's ability to manage COVID across our health system when they can't even meet pre-COVID demand."

Shadow Housing Minister Ella Haddad said it was clear what the government was doing was not enough when it comes to people facing housing stress and homelessness.

"It is good news to see the public housing waitlist slightly decrease, however the fact is that there are still 4,464 families waiting for a home this Christmas," Ms Haddad said.

"It will take priority applicants over 58 weeks to be housed and this is simply not good enough.

"In the lead up to Christmas, our offices have had numerous people contact us extremely stressed about desperate housing situations, situations that the government simply is not resolving and this is not good enough."
