The second of Kiama Municipal Council's Bulky Waste Drop-Off Events for 2026 will be held at the Minnamurra Waste and Recycling Facility on 7-15 November.
Registrations for this free event, which is held twice a year, will be open at Council's Household Bulky Waste Drop-Off portal at 9am on Monday 12 October.
This announcement follows a review of the service by Council's waste services team and the report will be considered at next Tuesday's Ordinary Meeting.
"We heard the feedback from the community that they wanted another Bulky Waste Drop-Off Event this year so we're going ahead with another one while this review takes place," Kiama Mayor Cameron McDonald said.
The review explores three options, which will be considered by Councillors:
Discontinuing the current drop-off event and promoting the existing user-pays on-call kerbside clean-up service.
Introducing a voucher system.
Maintaining the current drop-off event at the Minnamurra Waste and Recycling Facility (noting management remain concerned that this option does not adequately address workplace safety matters).
The current drop-off model has become increasingly difficult to deliver safely, because the facility at Minnamurra is not fit for this purpose, and has led to several workplace safety concerns.
Council's review is supported by a business case that includes information about the services and thoroughly explores all the risks and benefits of each option.
This information will be central to the planned community consultation process while the documents are on public exhibition for 28 days.
"It's important that the local residents read the information, consider the facts, explore the options and have their say," Mayor McDonald added.
