Dozen SA Arrests In National Firearms Week Of Action

Twelve people were arrested and more than 60 firearms seized in South Australia as part of a national week of action targeting illicit firearms.

Running from 19 to 25 October 2026, state and federal law enforcement agencies joined forces to identify people involved in illicit firearms offending, disrupt trafficking and supply pathways, and remove firearms before they could be used to facilitate violence, intimidation or other serious crime.

Police across Australia and New Zealand seized 603 firearms and laid 941 charges during the 2026 National Illicit Firearms Week of Action.

In South Australia, 29 searches were completed, resulting in 12 arrests, 33 charges being laid and 61 firearms being seized.

In addition, SA Police completed 27 Firearms Prohibition Order (FPO) compliance checks, issued two new FPOs and conducted 38 firearm storage inspections during the week.

Detective Inspector Nathan Schollar, SAPOL's Firearms Branch, said:

"This week of action demonstrates the impact of jurisdictions working together to identify emerging threats, target criminal networks and disrupt the pathways used to obtain, manufacture and supply illegal firearms.

"By targeting these networks and pathways, we reduce the capability of serious and organised crime groups to facilitate violence, intimidation and other offending in our community.

"Every illicit firearm removed from the community reduces the risk of that weapon being used to threaten, intimidate or harm another person.

"Our strong partnership with Crime Stoppers South Australia, together with information provided by the community, helps police identify risks earlier, disrupt offending and prevent illegal firearms from being used to cause harm."

Anyone with information about illegal firearm possession, trafficking or manufacturing, including 3D-printed firearms or digital blueprints, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or on 1800 333 000. Information can be provided anonymously.
