His Honour assumes the Office of Administrator as the Crown's representative in the Northern Territory
His Honour the Honourable David Connolly has been sworn in as the 24th Administrator of the Northern Territory at a formal ceremony at Parliament House attended by judicial leaders, Members of the Legislative Assembly, distinguished guests and community representatives from across the Territory and the nation.
At the ceremony, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, administered the Affirmation of Allegiance and the Affirmation of Office to His Honour, who will serve as the Crown's representative in the Northern Territory.
In assuming the Office of Administrator, His Honour takes on a role that upholds the constitutional traditions underpinning Australia's democratic system while engaging with communities, industries, cultural institutions and families across the Territory's vast and diverse regions.
Born in Cunnamulla, Queensland, His Honour was raised in a hardworking rural family, laying the foundation for a career spanning more than 30 years in the pastoral and agribusiness sectors. His senior executive experience includes President of the Northern Territory Cattlemen's Association, Director of the National Farmers' Federation, and his appointment to oversee the planning and construction of the Territory's first commercial cotton gin.
Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said His Honour's longstanding connection to the Northern Territory and extensive industry experience make him well suited to the role.
"His Honour has spent nearly two decades working in the Northern Territory, building strong relationships across regional and remote communities," Mrs Finocchiaro said.
"He has played a prominent role in the Territory's primary industries, including serving as President of the Northern Territory Cattlemen's Association during the live cattle export ban, where he demonstrated strong advocacy and leadership during a challenging period for the industry."
The appointment comes at a time when economic growth and regional development remain key priorities for the Northern Territory, with His Honour's deep understanding of Territory industries and communities expected to support continued growth and prosperity.
His Honour succeeds a distinguished line of Administrators who have upheld constitutional integrity while celebrating the unique identity of the Northern Territory. His tenure is expected to be marked by steadfast service, respect for institutions and strong engagement with the communities and industries that define the Territory.
