Sarajevo, 4-6 September 2026 - The Deputy Chair of the NATO Military Committee (DCMC), Lieutenant General Winston P. Brooks, participated as a keynote speaker at the Sarajevo Security Conference. Gathering with high-level transatlantic policymakers, defence officials, and security analysts, DCMC provided insights on how the Alliance cooperates with Partners and moves towards NATO 3.0.
Lieutenant General Brooks opened his keynote with a reflection on the Alliance over the past thirty years and on NATO's current deterrence and defence initiatives. "Returning to our roots is what NATO is implementing in real time with NATO 3.0: the return to deterrence and defence at its highest form, with real hard and tangible capabilities," he stated.
While discussing the most recent NATO Summit in Ankara, he stressed, "What deters is capability - delivered now, in the hands of trained forces, ready to fight tonight. Real magazines. Real readiness. Real production lines running today, on timelines measured in months. That is the standard Ankara set, and it is the standard the Military Committee will uphold for our collective forces."
The Sarajevo Security Conference annually convenes approximately 300 high-level decision-makers and leaders, including representatives from NATO, international think tanks, Ministries of Defence, and former intelligence officials. This year's forum brought the many stakeholders together to address the evolving European security architecture, regional resilience, and the strategic lessons from past peace support operations.
