The Territory Labor Government is putting community safety first with significant pieces of legislation up for debate as Parliament sits this week.
The Criminal Code Amendment Bill, better known as ringleader legislation is before the Parliament this sitting week.
This legislation will fulfil an election commitment to Territorians and introduces a new offence for any adult who recruits youth to engage in criminal activity, including property crime.
The Police Administration Amendment Bill, which will give police the power to enter premises where there is a serious imminent risk to the welfare of a child will also be debated.
The Justice and Other Legislation Amendment Bill is also up for debate. The Bill enacts a number of minor amendments to various pieces of legislation.
A committee stage amendment is also proposed to the JOLA Bill to remove references to the ICAC Act. Instead, these provisions will form part of a broader review of the ICAC Act which will commence in April.
This review will ensure the ICAC has sufficient powers in line with modern practice to meet public expectations and maintain confidence in a government accountability body.
The Territory Labor Government will also this week introduce new legislation to make voting in Local Government Elections easier for all Territorians - removing barriers to voting and enabling on the day voting.
Other Bills set to be introduced this week include Health Services Bill, The Land Title Amendment Bill and the Serious Sex Offenders Amendment Bill.
