Liberal Party Victoria

A Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will provide $6.75 million towards the second stage of the redevelopment of Junction Oval, including the new headquarters for FightMND.

Junction Oval is an iconic Victorian sporting facility and the home of Cricket Victoria. The Junction Oval hosts Sheffield Shield, Women's National Cricket League (WNCL) and Premier Cricket matches.

This redevelopment build on the works completed during stage one and will include;

  1. The refurbishment of the heritage listed Kevin Murray Grandstand, including a new 30-seat teaching room, office space, multipurpose rooms, new bathrooms and general storage space.
  2. Dedicated office space for the FightMND foundation, rent-free for at least 10 years.
  3. The restoration of the Junction Oval's heritage listed scoreboard.
  4. The upgrading of pavilions to ensure they are suitable for all visitors and players.

Leader of the Liberal Party, Matt Guy, said this commitment was part of the Liberals and Nationals' Real Solutions Plan to strengthen community sport and supports an amazing cause.

"This commitment recognises the vital work of FightMND and will give the organisation a suitable and permanent home to continue to support those living with Motor Neurone Disease."

"The Victorian Liberals and Nationals have Real Solutions to encourage community sport and strengthen facilities which benefit the entire community."

Shadow Minister for Sport, Cindy McLeish said women's and junior sport would be a big winner from this commitment.

"Junction Oval is home to several historic stands but the Kevin Murray is in the greatest need of refurbishment," Ms McLeish said.

"The iconic venue has a rich history and our commitment will preserve it for generations to come, and will deliver better and more accessible spaces for all."
