The Tasmanian Government is committed to supporting our vital industries though the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring they have the workforce they need to build for the future.
Labor's single agricultural policy ignores the fact we are already delivering a wide range of projects to enhance skills in the sector.
These include:
- Scholarships for apprentices and traineeships in the North West to encourage more trainees
- Investing $5 million in Freer Farm's Centre of Excellence
- Finalising a Workforce Development Plan to assess skills in the North West
- Working with Primary Employers Tasmania on wool handling skills and training
- Participating in the development of the National Agricultural Workforce Plan, as well as relevant sector-based workshops
- A school-based cadetship program, in partnership with Rural Business Tasmania; and
- Subsidised training for trainees in the agricultural sector
We have also supported agricultural businesses with our economic and social measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including our $3 million package to support temporary visa holders and our small business emergency grants.
We will continue working closely with industry to monitor their needs and ensure any emerging issues are addressed as we recover and rebuild from the pandemic.
