Deputy Secretary General Meets UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva

Council of Europe Deputy Secretary General Bjørn Berge had a meeting with Volker Türk, United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva. The meeting focused on strengthening relations between the two organisations and their complementarity, including in the implementation of the 4th Council of Europe Summit's Declaration.

Bjørn Berge emphasised the important role of the Register of Damage caused by the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, and also the Council of Europe´s commitment to its victim-centred approach to ensuring accountability.

The Deputy Secretary General also underlined the added value of the Council of Europe´s convention system and that the organisation stands ready to reinforce synergies with the Office of the High Commissioner within the framework of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
