Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman spoke today with Bjoern Seibert, Chief of Staff for European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The Deputy Secretary and Chief of Staff reiterated the U.S. and EU's firm support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and reaffirmed their commitment to strong transatlantic coordination to counter Russian actions against Ukraine. They consulted on diplomatic efforts to urge Russia to deescalate and choose diplomacy, and reaffirmed that further Russian aggression would result in massive consequences and severe costs for the Russian Federation.
