Detectives arrest man after Hampton Park hit-run fatality

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a man after a cyclist was struck in a fatal hit-run collision in Hampton Park yesterday morning.

A 29-year-old Endeavour Hill man attended Melbourne West Police Station this afternoon and is assisting detectives with their enquiries.

The arrest comes after a cyclist was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Hallam and Pound roads about 4.30am yesterday.

Sadly the cyclist, a 58-year-old Hampton Park man, died at the scene.

It is alleged the driver of the vehicle failed to stop after colliding with the cyclist before setting the vehicle alight a short time later in a Glen Waverley carpark.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and urge any witnesses or anyone who has dashcam footage or other information that could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
