Detectives impound car in Brooklyn

Detectives from Melton have impounded a car after it was detected travelling more than double the speed limit in Brooklyn this morning.

The officers were on patrol when they noticed the 1999 Honda Civic speed past them on Hight Street in Melton West about 2.50am.

Detectives attempted to catch up to the car which was believed travelling approximately 136km/h in a 60km/h zone.

The Airwing assisted officers on the ground as the car reached what is believed to have been 180km/h as it passed through Rockbank and Ravenhall.

The 31-year-old driver was intercepted by police on the Westgate Freeway near Grieve Parade before she told officers she was running late for work.

The Melton woman is expected to be charged on summons with speed dangerous and exceeding the speed limit.

The car has been impounded for 30 days at a cost of $878.57.
