Detectives investigate attempted carjacking in Yarraville

Detectives from Maribyrnong Crime Investigation Unit are appealing for public assistance following an attempted carjacking in Yarraville yesterday.

Investigators have been told an unknown man approached the victim whilst reversing his vehicle from a home on Stephen Street about 4.30pm.

It's alleged the man entered the victim's car and demanded the victim's vehicle.

The victim was assaulted when he refused, and two witnesses came to assist.

The man was held down on the ground momentarily by witnesses before he fled the scene on foot towards Lennox Street.

Investigators believe the man approached the victim on Stephen Street from either Knox Street or Castlemaine Street.

Th man is perceived to be Caucasian appearance, 30-40-years-old, 177cm tall with light coloured hair balding at the back.

He was wearing a dark coloured jumper, black shorts, blue shoes and carrying a brown satchel.
