Through the seamless integration of advanced capabilities and joint military assets, Exercise Diamond Seas 26 strengthens Australia's ability to train, test and prepare the next generation of integrated air power professionals.
As the first major activity of the Air Warfare Instructor Course, Exercise Diamond Seas stands as a cornerstone event of a demanding six month instructor-training program designed to produce expert tactical leaders who are humble, knowledgeable and approachable.
Commanding Officer 88 Squadron Wing Commander Tim Willetts described the Air Warfare Instructor candidates as "some of the most talented aviators who will become Air Force's most influential combat leaders".
"Our candidates will be the first ones to respond and will be required to lead teams with confidence, especially when it comes to achieving our 'Strategy of Denial'," Wing Commander Willetts said.
The Air Warfare Instructor Course combines high-end simulation training, intensive academic instruction and complex missions that push candidates to the edge of their tactical and cognitive limits.
Air Warfare Instructor graduates emerge as highly experienced aviators who will lead, advise and enhance Australia's combat capabilities, increasing lethality, survivability and operational effectiveness in multiple warfighting domains.
Exercise Diamond Seas focused on force-level integration training involving members from the Army, Navy and Air Force. With missions centred on complex maritime and coastal environments, scenarios replicated the ambiguity and complexity of contemporary military operations.
From mission planning to execution, candidates are required to not only master their own capability but direct and integrate effects from joint and combined assets while working in challenging conditions.
"Each candidate's success relies on their ability to rapidly process information, anticipate threats and execute objectives as part of a cohesive combat team," Wing Commander Willetts said.
Exercise Diamond Seas reflects a modern truth: success in warfare is no longer achieved in isolation. Seamless coordination across platforms, services and domains is essential to generating decisive combat power.
The Air Warfare Instructor Course reinforces the critical importance of integration and its role in delivering this combat advantage. The demanding, realistic environments replicated throughout the course ensure air warfare instructors and the wider integrated force are prepared to meet Australia's national security needs, both now and into the future.
